What is busyISP?
busyISP is a new ISP service from busyinternet.
busyISP offers dialup, wireless, and satellite
internet connections to anyone who demands highly
reliable service and first rate customer service.

What is a dialup connection?
A dialup connection uses regular phone lines to connect
your computer to the internet. Using a modem attached
to your computer, you connect to the busyISP server
and the internet. The speed of your internet connection
depends on the speed of your modem and the quality of
the phone line. If the phone line has a lot of
interference on it, it could slow down the speed of
your connection or make it impossible for your computer
to talk to the busyISP system.
What is a wireless connection?
Wireless internet connections let you connect your
computer or network of computers directly to the system
of your ISP, without requiring the use of any of the
phone company's equipment. From a small antenna located
at your location, a wireless connection uses radio
signals to transmit data directly to the busyISP
base station at speeds higher than available through a
dialup service. The result is a faster, more reliable connection
than dialup service offers. To use a wireless service, you must be
within a specific distance from the busyISP base station and there
must be no obstructions between your location and Busy.
What wireless technology does busyISP use?
busyISP has installed the Motorola Canopy system to
deliver wireless internet connections to its customers.
The Canopy platform is inexpensive, highly reliable and
easy to install. busyISP will install a Subscriber
Module (or SM) at your office and configure it to
communicate with the main Access Point (or AP) located
at BusyInternet's office in Accra. From there, your
data uses the same high-speed, dependable connection to
the internet that Busy uses for it's cybercafe. This
ensures the best speed and the most knowledgeable
technical support available.
What is a satellite internet connection?
Using a small satellite dish located at your office, you
can connect directly to the internet without going through the busyISP
network. It is ideal for customers who need a high speed connection
and are not close enough to the busyISP base station to use a
wireless connection. Even though your connection does not use the
busyISP network, we will provide the same level of professional
customer service to ensure that your satellite connection is fast
and reliable.
What satellite technology does busyISP use?
busyISP offers VSAT service using Radyne ComStream IPSAT with a dedicated Single Channel Per Carrier spot byte service from Panamsat. This is the most flexible cost efficient performance for high-speed satellite IP connections. The Radyne ComStream IPSAT is a one box Internet anywhere solution. The IPSAT integrates Radyne ComStream’s expertise in satellite modern technology with embedded, speed optimized IP processing to provide the highest through-put and the greatest level of integration in the industry. Our VSAT service connects your network directly to a satellite and requires only a small dish 1.8m at your location.
What is broadband?
Broadband refers to the speed of your internet connection.
A regular dialup connection using a modem can send and receive data
at a fixed speed, usually no greater than 56 kilobytes per second
(56Kbps, or 56K). Speeds at or below 56K are called narrowband connections.
Broadband connections, such as the wireless and satellite solutions
busyISP offers, connect at speeds greater than 56K. They can be
customized to meet the specific needs of your organization. Whether
you need 64, 128, 256K or higher, busyISP can create a service
that is ideal for you. In other parts of the world, broadband is
also delivered over DSL and cable modem connections.
What are uplink and downlink speeds?
Uplink and downlink describe the speed you send data and
the speed you receive data from the internet. Generally, users require
much higher downlink speeds than uplink because they receive more
information from the internet than they send to it. Emails, for example,
are usually small files, so sending email does not require the same
speed -- or the same amount of bandwidth -- as viewing websites,
which are much larger files and therefore take longer to send through
the net. busyISP's standard service plans offer an uplink to download
ratio of 1:4, meaning that information you download from the internet
will arrive four times faster than data you send.
What is the difference between shared and dedicated bandwidth?
When you sign up for service with an ISP, you essentially
rent a small part of their connection to the internet. On a shared
connection -- or shared bandwidth -- you and other customers use
the same section of the ISP's bandwidth. All of the information you
send and receive over the internet is still kept private, but the
different customers take turns using the ISP's connection. If all
customers are using the internet at the same time, you could notice
a slowdown in the speed of your connection. A dedicated internet
connection guarantees you the same speed all the time, no matter
how many customers are using the internet. You rent a piece of the
ISP's connection all to yourself. At busyISP, we guarantee a minimum
amount of dedicated bandwidth to our customers, so even when there
are a lot of people online, you will never go below a certain speed.
Will busyISP provide email, webhosting and domain services?
Yes. We can register your domain name, setup an email server for you, as well as webserver, ftp access and SSH access. You will have full access through your own web interface to manage your domain, add email accounts and configure how the domain works. For more information about this please contact busyISP, or check online at, www.busyworks.com
What about internet security?
Because broadband services connect you directly to the internet,
you need to ensure the security of your network. Firewalls -- either
software or hardware that block unwanted users from accessing your
computer -- are the most common method of protecting your information.
Firewalls range from software you can download for free to expensive
routers that you install between your computers and your internet
connection. A very cost-effective and secure solution is to use a
combination router and software firewall. The router will direct
the information you want to the right place efficiently while the
firewall will block unwanted probes of your network. busyISP's
technical team can help you decide what security is best for you.
What are IP addresses?
An IP address is a string of numbers that identify your
computer on the internet. Your IP address tells the rest of the net
where you are so that data can be delivered to the right location.
busyISP's wireless internet solution uses static IP addressing,
meaning that your computer or network of computers always has the
same identifying number associated with it.
